Becoming a Freemason

If you are interested in becoming a Freemason, it is actually quite straightforward, however, there are several mandatory requirements which need to be met.  One qualification is that you must believe in a supreme being.  You must also be aged 18 and upwards.

After reading through the information on this site, if you are interested in becoming a Freemason, we suggest that you first talk to a family member, friend or colleague whom you already know to be a member. They will be able to offer a further explanation to you about Freemasonry and help you take the first steps to find a suitable Lodge.

Should that not be possible or convenient, then please contact us at James E. Bullen Lodge and we will be happy to assist you.

The United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) has produced a booklet entitled “Becoming a Freemason” explaining many aspects of Freemasonry. It gives information about membership, the principles of Freemasonry, its development in England, some famous Freemasons, the officers of a Lodge, dress code and the standard layout of a Lodge meeting room.
